The Field Signature

Personality as a field of forces, the life space Kurt Lewin described. Your traits set the directions the field flows, your bonds set whether that flow is smooth or turbulent, and your drives set its charge. Play with it, then read how it works.

Build a person

Pick a sample or move the dials. BIS/BAS is the charge (gold approach, teal threat).

The idea

You move inside a field of forces

Kurt Lewin's field theory says behaviour happens inside a life space, a field of forces that push and pull you in every moment. Some forces draw you toward what you want, others hold you back, and the net of them sets your direction. Your character is the steady pattern in that field: where it flows strongest, where it is calm, where it folds in on itself. In this picture personality is not a dot on a chart, it is the whole field around you, and the streamlines you can see are the forces in motion.

Honest from the start. This is a visual metaphor for how the frameworks layer, not a claim that personality is a literal physical field. The scores are validated; the way they are combined is designed and calibrated, not yet validated. A psychologist signs off before any public personality claim.

How each outcome is drawn

Five frameworks, one field of force

HEXACO
The six principal force directions. Each of the six factors aims along its own direction, and the streamlines flow out further the higher that factor scores, so the shape of the field is the maths of your traits.
BIS / BAS
The charge of the field. Gold when approach (BAS) leads and the field pulls outward, teal when threat (BIS) leads and it pulls inward. The charge only tints the field, it never changes its shape.
Attachment
The coherence of the field. Secure lets the streamlines flow smoothly. Anxiety stirs them into turbulence and wobble. Avoidance opens a void at the centre that the flow bends away from.
Schwartz values
The potential wells in the field, the things you keep being drawn toward. The strongest values sit at their place on the value circle and the nearby streamlines bend in toward them.
SDT needs
The intensity of the field. When your needs are met the whole field runs bright and dense; when they are frustrated it fades to a faint, thin flow.
How it is built

From scores to a field

  1. The six HEXACO scores set the force directions and how far the streamlines reach along each one.
  2. Net drive (BAS minus BIS) sets the charge tint, gold pulling outward or teal pulling inward, without changing the shape.
  3. Attachment sets the field's coherence: smooth flow, turbulent wobble, or a void opened at the centre.
  4. The strongest values become potential wells the streamlines bend toward; the three needs set the overall intensity of the field.
  5. Same scores always trace the same field, so the signature is deterministic.
Honesty and limits

What this is, and is not

A metaphor for how the layers combine, not biology and not a clinical tool. Results are tendencies, not limits. The exact link strengths are calibrated from the literature and need a validation pilot and a psychologist's sign-off before any public claim. The shareable image should be drawn from bands, not exact scores.
